Breaded cheese

  • 600 g Edam cheese, cut into 1cm slices
  • 400 g bread crumbs, dry
  • 200 g flour
  • 4 pcs eggs, whisked
  • 300 ml canola oil

  1. Heat the oil in a deep frying pan.
  2. Whisk the eggs in a bowl and place the breadcumbs and flour in separate bowls.
  3. Cover the cheese slices with flour, then dip them in the egg then finally coat with the breadcrumbs.
  4. The bread covering must be thick enough to avoid the cheese spreading out while frying.
  5. Carefully drop the cheese into the hot oil and deep-fry for 2-3 minutes or until crisp and golden. 
  6. Drain on kitchen paper and serve hot.

Good points

  • Low in sugar
  • High in calcium

Please note that the oil must be hot enough to fry almost immediately the breading as this is what's keeping the melted cheese inside. Adding a bigger batch at the same time to the oil may decrease it's temperature, you must wait until the oil gets hot enough before adding the second batch of cheese.
