Pear cooked in red wine

as dessert

IngredientsConvert
  • 650 ml red wine, semi-sweet
  • 120 g cane sugar
  • 6 pcs pears, peeled
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pcs cinnamon stick
Preparation

  1. Pour the wine into a pot that is big enough to still hold the wine when you place in the pears (that means it must be approximately twice as big as wine needed).
  2. Add the cloves and sugar then make it boil.
  3. Place the pears in, add the vanilla extract, and reduce the heat so it does not boil but simmering, to make the pears tender.
  4. When the pears are soft in the outer side but still has some hard centers, take them out and set aside, keeping them warm.
  5. Discard the spices and make the rest of the wine boil until it starts to thicken to a syrup.
  6. Place the pears into plates and sprinkle with some wine syrup before serving. For hedonists, I recommend to garnish it with some lemon-flavoured mascarpone...

Good points

Thos recipe requires so much wine that there's no sense of talking about good points :)
